LAWBER

Privacy Policy

Version 2026-10-18-final

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Lawber collects, why, who receives it, how long we keep it and what choices you have. Lawber is operated by StopScam LLC, 254 Chapman Road, Ste 208, Newark, DE 19702, US (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at [email protected].

It applies to the Lawber app, the website lawber.app and Lawber Support. Attorneys who provide services through Lawber handle client information they receive under their own professional obligations.

Stripe Identity. Personal identity for new attorney applications is verified only through Stripe's hosted government-ID and selfie check. Stripe checks the document and compares the selfie with its photo; this may involve biometric processing. Lawber does not offer direct ID/selfie uploads as an alternative. Identity verification is separate from current state-bar licensing and Stripe Connect payout setup; license identifiers are checked against official sources, and a supporting license document is optional.

The Lawber integration does not download or store Stripe-collected raw ID or selfie files or biometric templates in Lawber's systems. We keep limited verification references, outcomes and necessary verified-name information for the license/name match. Authorized staff may view the Stripe verification result and records in its Dashboard for license review and compliance. Staff do not perform the identity check. Lawber separately retains optional supporting license documents and historical documents previously uploaded to Lawber under this policy.

Review Stripe's Privacy Policy and the disclosures and choices in its verification flow. These Lawber documents do not replace any biometric-processing or training consent Stripe presents. If the identity check is temporarily unavailable, you can try again later in the app.

If you turn on fingerprint or face unlock in the app, the check happens on your device; Lawber does not receive your fingerprint or face data.

The Lawber app includes Google Analytics for Firebase (GA4) and Firebase Crashlytics to measure app use and investigate technical problems. When reporting is enabled for an app release, these services may send app usage events and crash diagnostics to Google, including app-installation identifiers, app and device information, operating-system information and stack traces. Crash reports may be stored on the device before they are sent. Lawber’s custom events and error reports use limited categories and exclude names, contact details, request descriptions, messages, precise locations, card details, amounts and account, request or payment identifiers. The Lawber app does not include third-party advertising tools, and our website pages don’t use advertising or analytics cookies.

2. How we use it

  • To create and secure your account and sign you in with one-time codes.
  • To publish requests, show them to suitable attorneys, assign an attorney and run the service day (messages, calls, location sharing, arrival and completion).
  • To verify that attorneys are licensed and to check their license again periodically. When the identity result and an official state registry record match exactly, an application may be approved automatically; otherwise a person at Lawber reviews it.
  • To authorize, charge, refund and pay out money, to handle cancellations and chargebacks, and to settle amounts an attorney owes.
  • To answer support requests, review problem reports and disputes and make decisions on them.
  • To send notifications about your requests and account in the app language you use. You can turn off optional notifications, such as new request offers, messages and optional reminders; tips and marketing notifications are off unless you turn them on. Notifications about your requests, payments, deadlines, assignments, cancellations, arrival, verification, support and account can’t be turned off while you use the service.
  • To keep Lawber safe and reliable: prevent fraud and abuse, limit repeated attempts, apply the reliability rules of the Attorney Terms, investigate problems and keep records of important actions.
  • To meet legal obligations and to establish or defend legal claims.

3. AI features

Some Lawber features use an AI model provided by OpenAI, accessed through its API:

  • AI brief: the description, answers and files you choose for a request are sent to prepare a short summary for the attorney.
  • Support assistant: the messages you write to Support in the app are sent to generate a first answer; a person takes over when needed. Lawber’s AI administrator may use the same messages, with the same permission, to prioritize your request and prepare a reply based on Lawber’s help topics.
  • AI guide: only the question you type and the Lawber guide topics for your role and language are sent to answer questions about using the app. Your documents, payments, cases and account details are not sent for this purpose.
  • AI review of cases and disputes: only with its own separate permission, the identifiers, statuses and timestamps of your request and dispute (not messages, documents, contact details or card or bank details) are sent to help Lawber staff find cases that need attention and prepare review recommendations. Staff decide.
  • Attorney verification: an attorney’s name, state and bar number may be sent to help our staff search public registries. AI results are never the basis for approval: approval relies on official registry records and, where needed, a person’s review.
  • Operations supervision: to alert Lawber staff to problems, the AI administrator receives limited operational records — record identifiers, statuses, timestamps and counts, without names, contact details, messages, documents or payment details. Staff reports may include AI commentary on aggregate statistics that contain no personal information.

By accepting the current Terms of Service and this Privacy Policy, you permit the AI brief and support assistant to send the information described above to OpenAI through its API for their separate purposes. Guide questions are sent only with Guide permission enabled. For eligible new clients and attorneys, all three features are enabled when you first accept both documents and press Continue; no separate Guide approval step is needed. No materials are sent before your acceptance is saved, and a Guide question is sent only when you ask one. Your choice for each AI feature is saved separately; granting brief or support permission alone does not enable the Guide. Initial defaults apply only when you qualify for the new-account acceptance flow and have no earlier decision for that feature. Explicit choices and existing permission history, including an older permission, a choice to keep a feature off or a withdrawal, are preserved. Later acceptance of updated documents does not automatically re-enable a feature. Other accounts keep their existing choices and can manage AI permissions in Settings.

AI features work only while you have accepted the current Terms of Service and this Privacy Policy; when we publish an update, they pause until you accept it. You can switch each feature off in Settings. With the AI brief off, you write your description yourself. With AI support off, your support messages go to a person. With Guide permission withdrawn in Settings — Privacy, future AI answers stop and you can still browse and search the guide topics. Withdrawal stops future processing; it does not recall information already sent. AI review of cases and disputes still requires its own separate permission and is not enabled by accepting these documents.

OpenAI receives the selected request description, answers and files for the brief, messages sent to the support assistant for its initial answer, and only your typed question and the guide topics for your role and language for the AI guide. Do not put card numbers, bank details, ID numbers or private case details in support or Guide questions. AI answers can be wrong and are not legal advice; Guide answers are not reviewed by Lawber staff. AI is never used to decide payments, refunds, attorney approval or legal questions. The AI provider processes this information under its own terms as our service provider.

4. Who receives your information

  • The other side of your request. The attorney sees the request details you publish. Before the service day the client sees the attorney’s photo, state of license, languages and number of completed Lawber requests; the name, messages and calls become available on the service day (for an urgent request — right away). Live location is shown only to the other participant while you choose to share it.
  • Clients looking for help nearby. A client’s map shows the approximate area (within about 2 km) of approved attorneys nearby, based on the attorney’s saved profile location, without the attorney’s name or exact position.
  • Lawber staff who need it for their work (support, verification, payments). Opening a problem report or dispute does not give staff access to confidential request conversations. For an open dispute, the client may separately allow a named reviewer to access a selected conversation snapshot and selected attachments. The client can withdraw that permission; withdrawal or closing the dispute stops further access. A report can be reviewed without that permission.
  • Service providers who process information for us:
    ProviderWhat for
StripeCard payments, holds, refunds, cancellation fees, chargeback responses and attorney payouts (Stripe Connect); hosted ID and selfie checks through Stripe Identity for new attorney applications, as described above
    TwilioSign-in codes by text message
Email delivery serviceSign-in codes, replies to support requests and messages from Lawber Support by email
CloudflareDelivery of our website and API; storage of uploaded files
GoogleMaps, address and court search; push notifications on Android (Firebase Cloud Messaging); Google sign-in, if you use it; app usage measurement (Google Analytics for Firebase / GA4) and crash diagnostics (Firebase Crashlytics), when reporting is enabled
ApplePush notifications and incoming calls on iPhone; Sign in with Apple, if you use it
    OpenAIAI features described above
Audio and video calls go through our own call server and are not recorded.
  • Chargebacks. If a client disputes a charge with their bank, we send Stripe facts from the service record of the request so they can be passed to the card network: a description of the service (type of matter, city and state), the timeline of the request, the attorney’s location points at arrival and completion, the client’s confirmation or that the window passed, the number and times of messages and the number and length of calls (never what was said or written), the client’s acceptance of the Terms (version, time and IP address), the cancellation and refund terms, the client’s name and email and the payment receipt. Message and call content is confidential and is not sent.
  • Official attorney registries. To verify and monitor a license, we look up the attorney’s name, state and bar number in official state registries.
  • When required by law or to protect the rights and safety of people using Lawber, for example in response to a valid legal request.

We do not sell your personal information and do not share it for targeted advertising.

5. How long we keep information

  • Account information is kept while your account exists.
  • Requests, payments, cancellations, disputes, support decisions and the history of actions on a request are kept after a request is closed, because they are needed to complete payments and payouts, handle disputes and chargebacks, keep financial and tax records and establish or defend legal claims.
  • Messages of a request are kept with the request so that they can be reviewed if a problem is reported. Removing a closed conversation from your chat list hides it only for you; it does not delete it for the other side or from our records.
  • Drafts that you don’t edit for 30 days are deleted, after a reminder 3 days before.
  • In-app notifications that you have read are deleted after 30 days, and notifications about new requests after 7 days.
  • Live location is kept only as the latest point while sharing is on, and is erased when sharing stops or ends. We do not keep a route history.
  • The attorney’s arrival and completion location points are part of the service record of the request and are kept with it, because they are needed to handle disputes and chargebacks.
  • Stripe Identity records are subject to Stripe's privacy and verification disclosures and applicable provider retention settings, which may differ by data type. Provider records may remain after your Lawber account is deleted. Review the controls Stripe presents or contact Lawber Support about a privacy request. Lawber's limited verification records and license files uploaded directly to Lawber are governed by the Lawber retention practices described here.
  • Other information is kept only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy and to meet our legal and accounting obligations. After that, it is deleted or de-identified.

6. Deleting your account

  • Delete your account in the app (Settings → Delete account) or at lawber.app/delete-account, where we confirm with a code sent to your sign-in email or phone that the account is yours. You don’t need the app installed.
  • If you have an open request, an unsettled payment or payout, or an open dispute about a request, your account is first closed for new requests and deleted automatically once they are settled. An ordinary support question does not delay deletion. You can cancel this before it happens.
  • When the account is deleted we delete your profile (name, languages, address, attorney license details, settings), sign-in methods, device tokens and notifications, end any location sharing and end all your sessions. The text of any rating comment you left is erased. The email or phone number can then be used for a new account.
  • We keep the records described in “How long we keep information” — requests, payments, disputes and related messages — linked to a deleted account.
  • Files you uploaded (profile photo, verification documents, files in Documents and attachments) are stored separately. If you want them removed after deleting your account, send a request through Support.

7. Your choices and rights

  • You can see and change your profile in the app, choose which notification types you receive, turn location access on or off in your device settings, start or stop live location sharing, and switch each AI feature on or off.
  • You can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it or to delete it, through Support or at [email protected]. We may ask you to confirm that the account is yours. Depending on the state where you live, you may have additional rights under state privacy laws; we will respond as those laws require.
  • We won’t treat you differently for using these rights.

8. Security

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS) between the app, website and our servers, one-time sign-in codes with attempt limits, access controls and permissions for staff, and short-lived links to uploaded files that check who is asking. No system is completely secure; tell us through Support if you notice a problem.

9. Children

Lawber is for adults 18 and older, and we do not knowingly collect information from children through accounts. A request about a minor must be placed by an adult who is allowed to act for them.

10. Where information is processed

Lawber operates in the United States. Our servers and service providers may process information in the United States and in other countries where they operate.

11. Changes to this policy

We update this policy when our practices change. Each version is identified at the top of this page. When we publish a new version, the app asks you to review it, and AI features pause until you do.

12. Contact

Privacy questions and requests: lawber.app/support (choose “Privacy request”), Support in the app or [email protected].
